The Black Founders Network (BFN prepares to host its annual Demo Day on October 17, 2025, bringing together Black entrepreneurs from across Canada to compete for funding and investor attention. The event showcases startups from BFN’s Smart Start and Accelerate programs, with founders pitching live to an audience of investors, ecosystem partners, and community supporters.

Since launching in October 2021, BFN has supported over 15,000 community members through its programs. The network’s companies have raised more than $50 million in funding and generated over $45 million in revenues. These numbers tell a powerful story about the impact of targeted support for Black entrepreneurs in Canada’s startup ecosystem.

The BFN Accelerate program follows a competitive selection process where 10 startups with at least one Black-identifying founder participate in a four-month intensive program. Each startup receives up to $10,000 in combined funding, $5,000 for startup services and $5,000 for hiring talent. BFN Accelerate participants also compete for up to $50,000 in additional prizes throughout the program and at Demo Day.

Program participants gain access to co-working space at the University of Toronto’s Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus, mentorship from industry professionals, and tickets to major Canadian tech conferences including Collision, Elevate Festival, and Startup Fest. The program covers essential startup topics from product-market fit to investment readiness, legal workshops, and intellectual property strategy.

The Demo Day event will take place at 108 College Street in Toronto, creating a direct connection between emerging Black entrepreneurs and the capital they need to scale. Founders present their ventures to an audience specifically assembled to provide funding, mentorship, and strategic partnerships. This format has proven effective, with previous Demo Day participants successfully raising capital and expanding their operations.

BFN’s approach goes beyond traditional pitch competitions by providing ongoing support through its three-tier program structure. BFN Core serves those beginning their entrepreneurial journey, BFN Accelerate supports early-stage startups, and BFN Scale helps growth-stage companies reach the next level.

BFN 2025 Demo Day & Program Celebration

The program’s strength lies in its network-building approach. BFN provides access to mentors, advisors, and allies committed to opening doors for Black entrepreneurs. These connections often prove as valuable as direct funding, helping founders access customers, partners, and follow-on investment opportunities.

Program participants also benefit from peer connections within the BFN community platform, where founders can access resources, offer and receive mentorship, source talent, and connect with fellow innovators facing similar challenges.

For investors and industry professionals, the event offers direct access to pre-vetted startups led by founders who have completed intensive training and validation processes. For the broader entrepreneurship community, it demonstrates the power of targeted support programs in addressing funding gaps and creating opportunities for underrepresented founders.

The upcoming Demo Day serves as a celebration of Black entrepreneurial excellence and a platform for showcasing innovative solutions to real-world problems.
